Iris Ryder
Iris is well known in Hartlepool.
Since her teens, Iris has helped most of the town's charities. She has also worked with voluntary, educational and religious groups in the town. She has never accepted payment for this work. Her wide range of interests and qualifications give her a broad understanding of problems. For the last nine years Iris has worked as an elected representative with the council. She is a member of the Hartlepool Partnership.
Hartlepool born and bred, Iris and her children still live in the town. However, she often takes part in regional and international campaigns.
Caring For The Community
Public transport is a basic need. We should all be reducing our carbon footprint. So it makes no sense to remove any public transport. Iris's campaigns against cuts to services have saved several local routes. Iris has also found using public transport is an easy way for people to meet her and chat about their problems.
Iris Ryder is the regional Green Party nuclear issues spokesman on Teesside. She is also active with the Committee on Radioactive Waste Management. She campaigns against the governments nuclear new build plans and wants to stop radioactive storage on Teesside.
Campaigning For The Region
Iris keeps on fighting unfairness. She aims to improve public health and protect nature. But she is not afraid to use the law in order to do this.
She has taken part in local, regional, national and international struggles for justice.
Iris Ryder is well known for the ‘Ghost Ship' battle. She got world-wide respect in fighting to stop Teesside turning into a toxic and radioactive dump. This region is under threat of contamination by international governments and polluting industries.
